A very interesting,thought-provoking writing on implementing a personal relationship with the Lord apart from worship in the traditional Church. Simone makes a VERY profound assertion,which raises eyebrows(and was actually asserted by my pastor the other day)of:"Faith is not about what you believe and what you do not believe,but its about what you KNOW and do NOT know." She believed that if God wanted her to join the Catholic Church,then He would have placed her therein. She viewed the Church as a whole as being confining,dogmatic,and overly controlling in how the believer expressed their faith in/love for God,and therefore sought other avenues in her passion for Him. Although very UNorthodox,her opinions do bear consideration.As one afflicted visually for 15 years following medical malpractice,I can attest fully to Simones observations on sufferin as opposed to affliction quite interestin and totally TRUE,as Simone states affliction affects not ONLY one bodily,but mentally and SOCIALLY as well,as Simone asserts social EMBARRASSMENT/numiliation always vexes truly afflicted souls!! I KNOW it to be correct,from abiding 5 years from a SCORE sans a car,a job,or friends since my affliction!! Interesting reading to say the very least. Statements of abiding results of affliction bein present AFTER affliction is over is supported by an astute observation of Jesus nail-marks STILL visible in Jesus RESSURRECTED,qlorified body!!! Simone asserts sufferin must be MORE tan JUST physical to qualify AS true affliction,since a decayed dental member,for ALL its pain is of NO consequence as SOON as it is OVER!! Mental and spiritual aspects must also be affected in true affliction!! Painful or pleasurable,of prime IMPORTANCE is;Lord Jesus LAID nands ON you,because if a lady receives a love letter from a beloved,it does NOT matter if te messenger deliverin said letter is crude or kindly!! Mankinds proclivity to consume beauty instead of merely APPRECIATIN it,asbeen present since Eve felt it necessary to CONSUME forbidden fruit, in lieu of contemplation of its randuer.Profundity like so is REPLETE in Simones book!!
Simone Weil lived her life to the maximum, though she died at 34 in 1943. Intellectually a genius, her passion was to know and live life through the eyes of the sufferings of others. Her unexpected reward was to know God, to love Jesus and to yearn for his lasting peace. Her wise insights, written in notes not meant to be published, reveal a wisdom far beyond her years. I love her focus on the word "attention." For me, this means "be present." This is a powerful book meant for anyone who is serious about their spiritual journey. In peace, John Kuypers
I just got through day 4 and... this devotional is exactly what I needed. Throughout the devotional, I can see how the author's words tie back to different scriptures in the bible. My only suggestion would be to supply more scripture for meditation purpose but.. this is an older work. Either way, it is amazing. There is plenty of space in the book to write in scriptural references. Very scripturally and theologically sound devo that helps open my eyes and brings me to a closer intimacy with God.God brought this devotional to me exactly when I needed it. I'm only on day 4 and I am being changed.The devotional has applicable ways to wait on God, a little different from Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray which didn’t give a lot of practical advice. Great format. Soft cover. Love it.
The message is so simple. "I am waiting on God." His book Absolute surrender for me is too complicated. On our coins we have In God We Trust. How do you apply that? If we don't know how to deal with this or that I am waiting on God is the exercise of patience that often gives the answer. It takes away anxiety and worry. You don't have to try to get your own answers that often can be wrong. It's a very good read and it's application is right on for me. Maybe for the reader. Blessings
It is one of the best books I have read on how to allow the Lord to have His way with me. I highly recommend it and have given about 12 copies to friends.

As 2018 began, the first of Andrew Murray’s books landed in my lap. The Spirit speaks through him as clearly now as He did in the 1800s. This is a call to discipleship and surrender. What a treasure.
I guess when one is ready for certain changes in one's life God leads us to those things that will best facilitate that change. Simone Weil has been a catalyst for a major change in my life. Her writings have struck a responsive chord in my life. Although some of her writings are difficult for me to understand, the underlying message is powerful. I found myself relating to her desire to discover the love of God in her life. I appreciated her soul searching honesty is wanting that encounter to be completely without deception, pretense or even pride. She so wanted to guard against a false religious experience, or siimply a social religious experience. Her descriptions of what it is to truly love another are profound. Her life is a journey that I want to follow. I looked up the meaning of her name in the dictionary. It means "one who hears." Certainly, she is one who sought to hear the voice of God. I, too, want to hear the voice of God without deception or pride. I honor Simone as a true religious teacher for me.
