I'm a big fan of RedNose Studio. I am looking forward to get all the books they illustrate. The craft, the detail, the style is unique.This book has big photos of the dioramas and the story is simple, but a good start point for every little new fan of Elvis!
First, about me: I am known as one who likes to provide cultural context to my children, family and friends. They even jest that I'm a Cliff Clavin (the character on "Cheers" who likes to salt conversations with little historical factoids.) It's true. I like to add depth and historical context (or just fun facts) to the conversation. I was looking for a gift for a young family friend whose dad is into vinyl and fascinated by rock history -- and wants to share this passion with his kid. "Elvis is King!" is a great book for this little boy because it acknowledges that what made Elvis great is his ability to recognize great songs and styles and channel it through himself to become something wholly unique. This excellent and visually engaging book tells the inspiring story of how Elvis observed, absorbed and interpreted (and preserved) the best of original American music -- from r&b and country to gospel and beyond – by adding his own artistic expression. The recipient of this gift book is only seven, and already knows that Elvis is more than just a hip swivel, but someone whose ear was attuned to beautiful American music from churches to roadhouses to barn dances -- and when he mixed it all up -- sped it up a little -- crooned it -- the all-new song unleashed joy and made hearts throb.
