Carson finds itself among the best.Simply put, the book is an exposition of Matthew 5-10, focusing on the Sermon on the Mount in part one and then focusing on Jesus Christ's interaction and confrontation with the world in part two. Carson has done a masterful job at highlighting the text and working his way through section by section. His style is one that is in-depth without overwhelming, combined with clarity. As a result, this book is readable for everyone, not just a pastor or seminarian.The passages are profound on their own merit, but D.A. Carson helps guide readers and opens up understanding so that readers make meaningful interpretations and practical applications.In short, this is an incredible book that earns its space on the bookshelf. However, the best recommendation for anyone reading it is to grab their favorite Bible marking pens and read this book with an open Bible, taking lots of notes. Awesome book! I have been enjoying the insight and knowledge of D.A. Carson. His instruction and teaching has open my eyes to some new ways to see this Scripture. I have a hard time putting the book down. This book has also given me time to take notes and highlight my Bible.

D.A. Carson is one of my favorite theologians. This is a great resource for people interested in getting deeper into the "Sermon on the Mount".

This combing of two of his books is a handy way of taking on the Sermon on the Mount. Carson has a very informative way of helping you to understand this sermon and his additional chapters 8 through 10 are a bonus even if you are not going to cover them.

I was looking for a book to supplement a Sermon on the Mount study and grabbed this book. Good notes but less than half the book are on Matt 5-7 since it does cover 5-10.

Theologically sound, well written, easy to follow and understand. I am a committed follower of the Lord who leads a weekly Bible Study but am by no means a deep thinker. Just what I needed as reference material.

Misty Edwards, in her book, "What is the Point?" listed Carson's commentary on the Sermon on the Mount in her list of recommended commentaries on the subject. I got it to augment my own study of this aspect of Jesus' teachings. It has not disappointed. It is edifying and practical and balanced. I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about following Jesus' life and teachings.

Clarity and a thorough treatment is what is expected from Mr. Carson, and he delivers. His work on this section of scripture helps to open the reader's understanding of this sermon, thereby experiencing a more full impact of what it means for us. Taking the sermon from pious platitudes to hard-edged confrontation so that we can take an honest assessment of ourselves is essential for us to know what it means to be citizen's of the kingdom of heaven.
