This book is worth every penny and I rarely feel this way concerning how to books. It's well written and organized in a logical manner. I own a few books on alternative processes and have previously purchased how to books on Gum printing, but the information was slight and in some cases inaccurate and outdated. One of the things really enjoyed in this book was the inclusion of other gum printers, their methodology, their thought and their work. In my opinion, the only area the author failed to address in enough detail was in making digital negatives. A few more pages and a little more detail would have been nice, but in fairness there are already books already on the shelves that address this complicated subject. Gum printing is a fascinating medium and if you are thinking about investing some time and money into learning about this process....well this book is an excellent place to start.

Christine has written a complete and inspiring manual not only for those of us who have been involved in the alternative processes for years but a book that can serve as a guide for those just being introduced to this fascinating aspect of the history of analogue photography. Great directions and wonderful illustrations. If I were still teaching I would make this a text requirement....and come to think of it it would make a great workshop reference. I was recommended this product by a fellow nurse to help me learn ICU content for my new nursing job. I got this as a quick guide to help me study and to reference information quickly on the job . It is full of great information, and so easy to reference. I love that I can write in it, and that it can be easily erased with an alcohol wipe. It is much thicker than I expected. It's the size of a note card, but there are so many pages that make it thicker. I don't know if I would want to carry this in my pocket all the time, but it seems great to keep at my desk and is easy to transport in a bag to and from work. Really excited about using this and having such great info at my fingertips!

Great guide, easy to read, very comprehensive, take it to work everyday. I definitely recommend this book, also awesome because you can write in it & erase it later if needed. Even has a guideline for a report sheet.

I started the ICU program, and was looking for a resource to quick reference. The information is very basic. If you have no knowledge of ICU, this would be perfect for you! I just received and retained the basics and was looking for more!

I work in the ICU as my first official nursing job so having this little (big) guy in my pocket is great. I love that it is divided into sections and has details about the when, how, what, and how to fix it.

Lots of information in a thick little packet. More of a downtime study guide than instant reference. By the time you find what you’re looking for, the emergency would’ve passed already.

It was very helpful for use in critical care clinical rotation. Be advised that the notebook is small (index card length and width) and thick.

Sweet gift book for the lovelorn. Beautiful illustrations that bring back memories of reading Golden books as a child. The words are simple (for adults) and kind and hopeful. A good gift for the brokenhearted friend in your life, especially if they appreciate vintage or nostalgia. Of course, true to the books these illustrations are compiled from, don't expect to see people of color or same sex couples. (Think there is one black child and no other non-whites, if memory serves. I first borrowed this at the public library, then bought for a lesbian friend who had just experienced a rough break-up.) If this bothers you, this may not be the book for you. But the pictures are sweet and the words/message about love universal IMO.

Bought this for young nephews. Read it first though. Fun and informative.

I bought this book for my grandson when he was four (he's now nine) and he just called to tell me that it is his "all time favourite book". He has just become a Cub Scout and was asked to bring his favourite book to the next meeting and this is the one he chose. His father loves fishing, camping, boating and working outdoors whenever he gets a chance. My grandson seems to be following in his footsteps and the Buck Wilder books are perfect for him. The pages contain a myriad of pictures and information, well drawn and thought out so that there is something of interest and new to be discovered from the age of four to whenever?? I (and my grandson) highly recommend this book and the others in the series for your boys and I'm sure that girls would like them too if they love nature and the outdoors.

I bought this for my son for his birthday. He is obsessed with fishing and LOVES this book. The pages are so colorful and there are all kinds of neat hidden little words all over the drawings. He is six years old and it is one of the few books he will actually sit down with on his own!

This is a kids book with great pictures and a couple of short paragraphs on each page. Very easy to read but each of those paragraphs is full of good information. They describe the fish to you, tell you where it likes to hand out in the water, what kind of bait to use and if it hangs out in schools. What more does a person need to fish? It also has a page that shows you how to bait your hook. It is a good kids book but as a novice fisher person I found it very interesting. Great book.

I bought this for my seven year old grandson for his birthday. It is just as advertised. I am sure by spring, he will know what fish he wants to try to catch, what lures and bait is needed, and where to go to find the fish he will be seeking. It is written so both his parents and himself can read and understand what they need to know about fishing. It is the next best thing to being able to take him out fishing myself, which is not possible for me. Thanks Tom Evans

Highly recommend. The number one go to book for learning card magic technique. If followed in order, one will have enough material to buld an impressive routine at the end of the book, though Each section teaches technique then tricks with those learned techniques to apply and lock that learned technique in to memory for future tricks.There's a reason this book is the number one mentioned book for learning card magic. The material within its pages will do one well as you progress. The key with this book as well as any other is Practice. But even though this was written in the 50's it is still THE BEST starting point to learn.Get this book, you will not regret it.

Ah such high hopes I had when I bought this book for Kindle. It's a great book, but whoever made it for Kindle was incredibly lazy. The illustrations are near impossible to see, there are a bunch of typos, and in some places the text just starts and stops at random intervals. Please do yourself a favor and don't buy the Kindle edition, your frustration will be boundless

This book was highly recommended to me by a magician, who had it highly recommended to him by other magicians. If there's one book to get on card magic, this is it. If you're like me, you'll start getting all kinds of ideas for your own tricks by the time you finish the first chapter, and that just covers the basics. There's a reason this book is so highly praised.As a companion, look into the DVD sets by the same name.

First of all, the Dover Edition and the original edition of this book are great. Their positive reviews are accurate.This review is about the incredibly poor quality edition produced by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Their's is a very low quality, print-on-demand, version of the book which has two inch black margins, pixelated illustrations, and lacks substantial portions of the text. Presumably, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform is one of those companies that exploits the easy availability of free texts to sell print-on-demand versions with no quality control. Also, their edition is almost twice as expensive as the much higher quality Dover one. As far as I can tell, their's is listed first because they lie about the publication date and exploit some sort of searching bug in Amazon. This is a dishonest and opportunistic way to sell overpriced, lower quality, goods online.Don't waste your money on the CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform edition, buy the Dover Edition instead: The Royal Road to Card Magic

As a beginner magician, I could not be happier that I have found this book. When one first begins his journey into prestidigitation, it is normal to be completely overwhelmed with the mass of sources that claim to teach you the magic you need. The latest culprit of this are the videos that make the promise of mastery of a particular trick within X minutes of watching. RRTCM takes this premise, and completely negates it, despite having been written much prior to the thought of such an idea. Hugard & Braue dispense of the notion that a good magician is one who knows a thousand tricks, for a thousand tricks equate none if you cannot perform them correctly. Each chapter introduces a feature of card handling, whether it be shuffles (overhand, riffle, hindu), flourishes, passes, glimpses, etc. Then, at the end of the chapter, the authors provide a handful of tricks that are performed due to that certain sleight you just learned. The authors instruct you to read the book in order, making sure not to rush ahead, almost as if you were studying for a college class. If you take this approach, it will seem dull at first, but it will make you a better magician, I promise you. To sum it all up, there is a reason this is called the Bible of Card Magic. Whether you're new to the field of card magic, or a seasoned veteran, this book should be the first in your library.

The information presented in "The Royal Road to Card Magic" is very good, and, if followed as intended, should provide an excellent set of skills necessary for effective performance of card magic. The writing style is dated, however, which makes the book less enjoyable to read than you may wish. Worse, though, is the poor conversion to a digital book. Often words are misspelled, such as the frequently-occurring "fight hand" instead of "right hand." There are several places in the book where a sentence, paragraph or portion of a paragraph is out of sequence on a page, so it takes some careful reading and deductive reasoning to determine what the authors actually wrote. This can get very frustrating when you are trying to understand a complex series of instructions which have been jumbled in the digitization process. Does no one edit or proof-read these digital books before they are published?

Do not buy the kindle version, only buy the dover edition. Read it from cover to cover and you will have gone from laymen to practicing magician at an incredible pace. It's a study guide, or a text book, for magic, you don't go to it looking for a single trick, you learn everything you can. After you read this buy Expert Card Technique (not expert at the card table) also only get the dover edition. The double lift in this book isn't very good, and some of the other methods are a bit antiquated as well, but practice them anyhow and learn the proper versions from expert card technique. You will be able to perform a mind blowing effect within 15 pages, and you will have acquired a life long essential within 5.

This is THE introduction to card magic. If you're just getting started in magic, do not pass this one up. There are a number of powerful effects that can be used straight out of the book, and the detailed instruction on the arsenal and moves and sleights will bring your magic to the next level.

Jessi Kirby writes with such compassion about the human spirit. Her character, Mari, in the Otherside of Lost has a broken soul. She struggles to piece herself together while trekking on the Sierra's John Muir Trail. I felt every painful step she took on that trail. The pain she felt for the loss of her cousin, Bri. The pain she felt for every blister on her feet. Also, the pain she felt because she didn't think herself worthy of unconditional love. This book is not a book just for young readers. It is a book for all readers

Definitely different than my normal Sci-fi but I bought this because the description made me curious. In a world where everyone lives behind a screen and all this social media, the main character breaking out of that which had caused her to lose her best friend was such a refreshing read. The characterization of the main character was incredible, as was the seemingly basic journey she went on to rediscover who she really is. I've recommended this book to a ton of people.

As a older male, i generally read nonfiction books about long distance backpacking. That’s what I thought I was getting in this book but I eventually figured out this was fiction. That said, I truly enjoyed this book. The author tells a great story wrapped around real time events, in this case a JMT thru-hike. I just wished I knew this in advance when the book had me in tears and reliving my own grief.

This is the first book I've read leisurely in over 10 years and I was from disappointed. Thank you Jessi for encompassing the meaning of courage and confronting reality!

Sometimes you have to get really lost in order to come to being found. The Other Side of Lost is a journey book - a tale of seeking - Mari hits the trail and faces difficult terrain and in so doing finds the strength to face up to her own inner wilderness.

This is a beautiful book by one of my favorite authors. I think it will resonate with many teens and young adults.

I have read all of Jessi Kirby's books and this one is my favorite! A great relaxing read, hard to put down, and I now want to go out and hike the John Muir Trail.

I've read all of Jessi Kirby's books and loved each one. The Other Side of Lost is her best to date!
