I decided to start playing the flute again after 17 years of leaving it in a box. I've forgotten a lot of what I knew and don't have time for private lessons. This book has been an excellent refresher for me as I teach myself to play again.

This is a good book to acquaint yourself with the flute, learn the notes and how to blow into the flute. It also instructs you how to properly hold your instrument and play some simple songs. I'm retired and decided to try to learn an instrument later in life and always loved the flute. Of course I would choose an instrument that is rather difficult. I wanted to learn some basics before I took some lessons, saving some money. This does the trick.

After obtaining a 50s era flute at a silent auction and having it reconditioned, I looked for a flute method that I could use to teach myself to play. The Rubank Method popped up and I was immediately flooded with memories from my childhood in the 60s when my music teacher used this method to teach me the clarinet. I recalled it as an effective (and fun) method with some pretty interesting drills. I immediately ordered all the flute books in the series from beginner to advanced vol. 2. I had previously ordered two other flute method books and was disappointed...too much history and music theory and no logical sequential approach to learning. I can't begin to convey how excited I am to have found this method...even the cover is exactly the same...and the price can't be beat. This series is a "must" for any serious student of the flute.

After taking about 20+ years off playing the flute I had forgotten all of the fingerings, notes, and how to read the music. This has been a great refresher and works you through each set of notes with plenty of practice snips to reinforce the skills being taught in each lesson. I would recommend this for all ages (I remember learning from these books when I was in elementary/middle school). As a parent I would assist my child in working through the books if you are doing them from home; at least until they get the hang of how to use them.Great product (for the entire series of books).

This is the classic method book from (at least) 40 years ago or more. I used it when I was in beginning band, and I am now using it to teach my own flute students. The lessons are clear and concise, and build at a logical pace.No frilly stuff. Just good, down-to-earth music theory and practical instruction.

I have only looked at this book, I have several wind instruments I am practicing and learning to play.The content looks well structured, as if made for school students to learn from. It seems easy enough to read and understand and I feel it will be a great asset in my quest to play the flute. Thanks!

Classic. One of the best. Used the Rubank method for piano in the early 80s. It works.

I like this book when tutoring students on a new instrument, but who are familiar with music. It works well to learn fingerings and reacquaint with rhythms. I do not recommend it for any musician who is totally unfamiliar with music reading and to someone who is younger than 12. It advances too quickly as far as I'm concerned when it comes to needing complete music learning.

My experience with this book came from using it to study for the OAR exam. The three parts of the OAR exam are math, reading comprehension, and mechanical. In terms of math and reading comprehension, I thought the book prepared me well. The mathematical sections of this book thoroughly cover all of the math skills you will need to be familiar with on the OAR. In addition, the reading comprehension sections provide good tips and the questions follow a similar format to that of the OAR. However, I believe that the reading comprehension questions of this book were on average more difficult than those of the OAR. I don't really view this as a negative quality, though.While the aforementioned qualities of the book were excellent, my overall experience with this book left more to be desired. I was most interested in both studying for the mechanical section and taking practice sections and tests to prepare me for the OAR. This book showed a very disappointing lack of editing prowess and basic utility when, although in the chapter The Tests at a Glance the book initially correctly cited the correct number of questions and time allotted (30 questions, 25 minutes - math; 27 questions, 25 minutes - reading comprehension; 30 questions, 15 minutes - mechanical) for the ASTB subtests (of which the OAR is comprised), the book's practice OAR only contained 25 math questions and 25 mechanical questions.Adding to the lack of utility of the book's practice OAR is the fact that the mechanical section is comprised of questions that are about half similar to the OAR and half absolutely nothing like you will see on the OAR. Although the mechanical study sections of the book cover the majority (but definitely not all) of the key concepts for the OAR, it is consistent throughout the book that the practice mechanical section and the practice OAR section cover questions that are both impossible to complete without a calculator (which you will not be allowed for the OAR) and are systematically much more computationally difficult and therefore not suited to the actual OAR's 30 seconds per mechanical problem average.The only reason this book gets a 3/5 star review is because its overview of the military, tips for how to take the test, and study ideas are overall well thought out. For my intended purposes of studying for the mechanical section of the OAR and taking practice tests, this book was very lacking in quality.

Overall the book is good for studying math, vocabulary, reading, and science portions (note: the book says AFOQT doesn't have comprehensive reading but it does, so study it.) However, this book doesn't have any pilot testing sections so online resources must be used. Do NOT get the online version unless you don't care about the math (though you should) because the formulas are small due to the way the books are loaded and they cannot be enlarged. I can't give it a bad review though because I took it and passed, this being my main source of study. Make use of the practice tests and actually time yourself, also look for the sections online that are not included in the book.

The book is good, but a lot of it I didn't need for the OAR. The vocabulary section wasn't even on the test. I should have studied the physics section harder, though. The math is helpful.

There are so many errors in the mechanical comprehension section of this book as well as the test questions. The font size of the formulas are too small. I have to look up the formulas online to verify that I read them correctly. It definitely not worth the price I paid for this book.

This book prepared me very well for the test. I would have liked to have been given a couple more practice tests. It went into too much info on physics which only succeeded in scaring me. Overall, I recommend it.

He spends a lot of effort providing of an accurate account of the men and resources available to each side in every conflict. The reader may find oneself skimming these pages.The War of 1812 proved the total inadequacy of depending on militia to defend the nation. It also showed that our infant navy could meet and best ships of the Royal Navy in single ship actions. If you are interested in this period of American history I totally recommend this book.

The absence of the illustrations is noticeable.Also, if you are Italian or Indian, T.R. didn't think highly of you as a sailor - so be warned on that one.

While I realize that this was written as, well...propaganda, this was a very enjoyable read. Written by a then 23 year old Teddy Roosevelt, and quite blatantly addressing a neglected US Navy of the 1880's, this book is obviously painstakingly researched, and provides quite a balanced and detailed account of naval battles of the War of 1812. The reader might also be slightly amused at the jabs at Thomas Jefferson who certainly did not like the idea of spending money on a navy. Roosevelt's purpose in writing this was to push for naval preparedness, which was of course lacking in the 1880's. I highly recommend this very enjoyable read to anyone interested in not only the naval actions of the War of 1812, but in the history of the US Navy.

The book is not as easy to read as the author's autobiography. It has an impressive profusion of details. Really, too many. So many in fact, that the book is boring.....although, perhaps it was written for those researchers and scholars interested in historical naval warfare.It is also a recurring warning against well known naval warfare authors on both sides of the Atlantic, specially on the British side.It demonstrates with facts that these these authors are not to be trusted. Their information is non reliable and biased.Finally, this book has a quality: it probably explains better than any other book, the reasons behind President Roosevelt 's insistence in building newer and better naval warships as well as the pro navy policies he pursued after he became President and the US fleet worldwide tour at the end of his Presidency. It may also explain some of the reasoning behind his decision to choose Panamá as the site to build the isthmian canal.

This was a fascinating book. It describes in very good detail each and every naval action in the War of 1812. Roosevelt relied on many naval records, letters from the officers involved and even British and French sources. The only drawback to a great read was the 19th century language took some getting used to, and the many statistics which might have been useful to a technician, but I didn't need the discussion on whether this ship was rated at 5 more tons that its opponent. If you like stories of sailing war vessels and the descriptions of the battles, this is the book for you. He even puts the decisions from the leaders in Washington and London in context with the results of the battles. All in all, very worth reading.

Kindle edition is free. How good does the book have to be?What most readers may not know is that this book was something of a standard history at the U S Navel Academy and in British universities. TR was a very much a superior historian, if still a man of his times.This is a critical history and not for light entertainment. TR makes a serious analysis of nearly every important engagement between American units and the British. In every case he is scrupulous about praising and blaming where he believe praise and blame is appropriate. In every case he makes known his reasons. Unfortunately, he is furious at a previously published British analysis of the Naval WAR of 1812 and his often repeated damnation of the nationalistic bias of that edition bulks out this volume with too much recycled bile.The presumption that race maters is endemic in this text. There is some admission that -for example- the French built good (better) ships and when well lead could earn victory. In the main there is an assumption that the Americans were the better race, the British , close cousins to Americans were second and all other claimants trail according to how closely their national blood line mirrored the American blood line.For many readers this fact renders this book as unreadable. I suggest that: The Naval War of 1812 stands as document historic in its own right. And that the racism of TR makes it a case in point from which readers can document any number of persoanl viewpoints.

This book is worth every penny and I rarely feel this way concerning how to books. It's well written and organized in a logical manner. I own a few books on alternative processes and have previously purchased how to books on Gum printing, but the information was slight and in some cases inaccurate and outdated. One of the things really enjoyed in this book was the inclusion of other gum printers, their methodology, their thought and their work. In my opinion, the only area the author failed to address in enough detail was in making digital negatives. A few more pages and a little more detail would have been nice, but in fairness there are already books already on the shelves that address this complicated subject. Gum printing is a fascinating medium and if you are thinking about investing some time and money into learning about this process....well this book is an excellent place to start.

Christine has written a complete and inspiring manual not only for those of us who have been involved in the alternative processes for years but a book that can serve as a guide for those just being introduced to this fascinating aspect of the history of analogue photography. Great directions and wonderful illustrations. If I were still teaching I would make this a text requirement....and come to think of it it would make a great workshop reference. Thanks so much Christine!

If you are thinking about alternative photo printing and looking at Gum Bichromate, then this is a MUST HAVE BOOK. I have read several others and this one is the best that I have found. Step by Step on what you need and what you need along with sources to the the supplies that you are going to need. Five stars falls short on this book.

A contemporary gum printing bible, Anderson compiles everything you need to know to get started as well as keep going. As a master's student focusing on gum printing the addition of contemporary gum artists at the end of the book pushes the book past useful to completely insightful. Gum process is so varied that getting a peek into so many artist's personal processes is inspiring and super helpful with personal experimentation.

Informative just with it had more Neuro and Cardio and drips pertaining to dosage and how to titrate for ICU. Easy to read. Kindle edition works on all my devices: fire tablet, ipad, iPhone 6s, and galaxy s5 & s6.

I was recommended this product by a fellow nurse to help me learn ICU content for my new nursing job. I got this as a quick guide to help me study and to reference information quickly on the job . It is full of great information, and so easy to reference. I love that I can write in it, and that it can be easily erased with an alcohol wipe. It is much thicker than I expected. It's the size of a note card, but there are so many pages that make it thicker. I don't know if I would want to carry this in my pocket all the time, but it seems great to keep at my desk and is easy to transport in a bag to and from work. Really excited about using this and having such great info at my fingertips!

I started the ICU program, and was looking for a resource to quick reference. The information is very basic. If you have no knowledge of ICU, this would be perfect for you! I just received and retained the basics and was looking for more!

I work in the ICU as my first official nursing job so having this little (big) guy in my pocket is great. I love that it is divided into sections and has details about the when, how, what, and how to fix it.

Lots of information in a thick little packet. More of a downtime study guide than instant reference. By the time you find what you’re looking for, the emergency would’ve passed already.

It was very helpful for use in critical care clinical rotation. Be advised that the notebook is small (index card length and width) and thick.
