Years ago I went on a holiday to Morocco. This book is very old and was meant as one of the first travelbooks for the country but it was a joy to recognise the things I had seen while visiting. It has a very pleasant style of writing and if you are going to Morocco I would certainly recommend reading it. But also for the armchair traveller a very good and cheap read.

I'm not only a fan of Wharton's fiction, I think it's important. I had a story to write on Morocco, so I downloaded this and Samuel Levy Bensusan's 'Morocco' to see how much the experience of traveling the country had changed in the century since they wrote their books. They both write about northern Morocco, north of the Atlas, which has changed quite a bit, but southern Morocco -- south of the Atlas -- one encounters the same experiences and incidents Wharton and Bensusan had in the early 1900s. Her eye for detail and insight is no less dim than in her fiction. However, her French favortism -- the idea that French colonialists were a proper civilizing influence on the barbarous natives -- is hard to stomach after a while. Still, worth a read before visiting the country.

Beautifully written...she can really conjure up pictures with her words. (A good thing, because the pictures in the book are not included in the Kindle version) It is very interesting to read this book depicting her travels in Morocco around WWI in the light of current Middle East politics. Do our statesmen ever read books like this?

Edith Wharton's vivid description of her journeying through Morocco in 1917 is better than any contemporary guide book. Full of amusing and detailed descriptions of her drive from Tangiers down through Fez and Rabat to Marrakesh, one has to remember the condition of the roads back then and the length of time taken. In addition it gives a detailed history of the country and its rich Islamic heritage. The bazaars in Fez remain today as mysterious and crowded with their tanneries, silk and rugs, chickens and donkeys as they were almost a hundred years ago.

Don’t buy this copy. It is a bootleg of the original. Printed via create space. It isn’t even the right dimensions of “standard” memoirs are. I’m sending it back. This company show be ashamed.

When I first visited Granada,I carried Washington Irving's Tales of the Alhambra and used it almost as a guide book.Should I ever go to Morocco, I would do the same with Edith Wharton's volume.Wharton has a reporter's eye coupled with the ability to translate vision into exquisite prose.IN MOROCCO weaves together history,culture,politics, and travel but moreover, links us to the world of Islam today and helps us realize that some things can never change.,

This is a bootleg book. Poor reprinting job with text crooked on the pages, no writing on the spine, and blurry text on the back cover. This is not okay and likely illegal. I'm requesting a refund.

Wharton's travelogue itself I'd rate 5 stars (I love it!) -- as good as Rebecca West's Black Lamb, Gray Falcon. But the volunteer scanning/encoding for this Kindle edition, what with omission of all the illustrations from the original edition, and some occasional errors in formatting for Kindle, leaves me disappointed: only 3 or even perhaps just 2 stars for that. All told, though, I like it, hence my 4 stars.

I wonder how a description of a book package cannot be changed so it can have an accurate information. Same company, selling the same book for less than 20 and another for more than 50. Come to think of it, both did not include a workbook which was needed. Also amazon reps(no offense) did not really make the situation any better. Eventually, I had to order it from another retailer. Returning this one because of the missing workbook!

I guess I'm the sucker born this minute. Don't pay this much for eight pages. I had to take a closer look upon delivery to see if there were any pages between the covers.

My son loves this and has had a lot of fun with it. He is really into trains, so it was perfect for him. We like the detail of the text and the stickers are a fun thing for an activity.

Perfect for kids who love trains and can't get enough of them! The stickers are great quality and the pictures are exactly what you'll expect from DK company. Kids love the 'cut right out of a picture' stickers and the countless amount of time to play with them. I have always loved DK because I grew up with this company and DK never fails to amaze me with the incredible picture quality and entertainment they offer for kids this generation! This makes a great gift idea!

This book is the best for a toddler who loves trains. The pictures are large with enough detail to keep their attention.

The stickers are thick and high quality. My 2 year old can peel them off himself and he’s thrilled. For older kids, it’s fun to match the stickers with where they go in the book while learning about trains. Perfect for train-obsessed kids! Fully recommend!

These books are amazing! My 2 3/4 year old son loves doing them with us. We do them as part of our bedtime routine. He loves all vehicles - we have already completed the Truck book and he loves the Train book just as much. It's fun for my husband and I too - we are all learning about the different vehicles. The outline of the shapes help our son too! He is getting better with each sticker at being able to line up the sticker and cover the highlighted shape.

It was a nice book and given as a gift. Kept the three year old somewhat interested...

As someone who is weak in Physics, I used this book to study ahead before my Physics II course. The book is written in an entertaining style that is very clear. I highly recommend this for anyone taking Physics II or about to take Physics II.

Very good overall -- I used it to translate my Calculus based Physics text book into English. Uses basic algebra and trig to cover 2nd half of a 2 semester physics course, although the order and organization of the topics may vary from school to school.I didn't use the work books, so I can't gauge their quality nor the level of synergy between the book and the workbook.Gripes: references material in book one that... is ... not in book one.Would like a tear-out car for formulas like many of the other dummies books have.

This book was totally worth every penny spent. My professor was horrible this semester, and the textbook just made things even more confusing. This is a great way to have concepts literally dumbed down for you a bit, so that you can understand them. I wish I only bought this and not my actual textbook for the class! This helped me a lot, and without it, I don't know where my grade would be right now!

This is the second of two Dummies books on physics. It is practical and useful on explaining the basics but not so elementary that it looses importance. You might have better books explaining the maths, but the simple but well written text is not mired with loads of mathematical proofs, but does have a nice mix.

I love the "...For Dummies" line of support regardless of the difficult subject matter. As for physics, and the comprehension of this subject material, as many different means of tutorial support are always helpful in grasping the theory of the subject. This is a great book to support and enhance an introductory physics course.

In order to understand this book I had to first go through Khan Academy lectures. After completing the lectures I didn't really need to read this book. Therefore I advice anybody who wants to learn physics to go to Khan Academy. This book is not for dummies as advertised. I feel cheated.

In some areas it was helpful, in some aspects-esp. the really in-depth stuff-not so much. If you have a teacher who just likes to put equation up with no explanation-save your money and hire a tutor!

Good for test preparation. Recommended by university to cover what you'll need to apply and be competitive.

Unless you are obsessed with the styles in the title of my review, this book won't help much. The theories are repeated ad nauseum, with no variety in how the points are illustrated. So how do you have a rustic/country/farmhouse/Early American not-so-big house? Or a French or Italianate? Or a "traditional" (whatever that means). Or Scandinavian. Or ADA? You get the drift: you have to use your imagination. Very disappointed, as we are downsizing and I was looking for pointers.

I love all of Sarah Susanka's books. I especially enjoy the photography with before and after shots showing how small details can make a difference. This book is the first in the series. I enjoy Sarah's philosophy regarding having less square footage but incorporating more meaningful features. Sarah admits that the details do not make the house less expensive to build. We have used some of the book's concepts for decorating, arranging furniture, and paint colors. We have an "away room" as suggested by Sarah and I love it. It offers peace and quiet whereas the rest of our downstairs living space is open. In the past, I borrowed the Not So Big House books from our library but I love owning them. It is such a pleasure to own these books and I would recommend them them to anyone with an interest in home design.

Good book, with lots of nice pictures. Two main problems: (1) many of the houses are actually pretty big and (2) its all a bit dated. Time for an update reflecting current design and construction techniques.

I see some complaints that people are quantifying the square footage of the Not So Big House. YES, some of them are still big... For some big families, 4000 sq ft might be Not So Big. For some individuals who like to live big, even 4000 sq ft might be Not So Big. I think another term that could be used would be JUST RIGHT. For one person, depending on his/her lifestyle, 4000 sq ft might be Just Right.Some people are saying "What?!? I live in 1,500 sq ft" or even "800 sq ft" ... and this book "has examples of 2,500 sq ft... that's not 'Not So Big'!!!". Well, yes, FOR THAT PERSON. Again, it's not about the actual size. It's about being JUST RIGHT.Again, the complaints of some reviewers focus really on area covered, rather than the real focus of the book: quality of life in one's living space. The book does say, in one example, that a couple with children moved from a 4,000 sq ft McMansion to a 2,500 sq ft house THAT WAS NOT MUCH MORE INEXPENSIVE than the 4,000 sq ft house -- in other words, it costs almost as much, even though it is only roughly 60% the size of their former bigger house. But, the point is, this book was giving ideas on how we really use rooms and areas of the house, so not only are the areas of use maximized, but also ENJOYED.Spend on details like trimmings, lighting, etc... on details that count (to make it cozy, inviting, warm, or whatever effect one is after), instead of area, and instead of having just a big house, you end up with a LIVEABLE house.And this is where this book shines: it shows examples (and comparisons of) big (and even impressive) rooms and houses that seem cold and uninviting, to a smaller area (again, smaller being relative) that is WELL DESIGNED, not to impress, but rather to be a place where one wants to be. And that is precisely what a home should be -- a place where one wants to be. The Not So Big House is really just another way of saying the HOME that is FOR YOU.There are many examples of making basically small areas like the dining, living, kitchen, etc... and make it seem like one BIG area because of the lack of walls, and yet still make them separate (using lighting, ceiling height, etc) from each other. But, it looks bigger, even if it's really Not So Big.This is an idea book, not a book about actual square feet (I really should be using square meters, because it's metric where I'm from, but anyway...). And, as an idea book on how to maximize space, and maximize quality of life in a house to make it a home, it deserves top props.I rate this book 4.5 stars (not quite the 5 I gave), because even if this is the 10th anniversary edition, it could use more pictures/examples of the Not So Big lifestyle and designs, and how they all work.

First of all, I bought this book used and it was not in very good condition. A page that I really wanted to read was missing, for one thing. Unfortunately, I can't recall the seller's name now but I left a bad review when I received no response to my concern.But anyway, the book itself was very good. My husband and I are remodeling a house built in 1949 which used every nook and cranny for some function. It doesn't fit the modern concept of lots of empty space, so we are working on creating a little more empty space while using some of Susanka's ideas for making certain areas more compact. We are expanding our kitchen into a porch, but the ceiling in the porch is lower and this book gave us the idea to just keep it as it is because lowered ceilings add character and are something Frank Lloyd Wright used. I also like her recommendations for wood trim and moulding to warm up rooms and use many windows to bring the outside in. As my title implies, some of the details are pretty outdated such as any picture involving a computer and the kitchen chairs, but that can be overlooked since the overall ideas are still very usable.

This is a very well done book but probably more extensive than I wanted for my purposes. I started making my own colloidal silver and was really looking for a book on how to utilize it in a practical setting. While it does give guidelines for usage, it assumes you have several different strengths available. While I can make different strengths, I stick to 10 ppm of very good quality colloidal silver, so I really am not sure how to make the changes except through experimentation. This covers absolutely everything you would ever want to know about silver and colloidal silver. But for me - too much information. I am just more interested in the practical medicinal uses for my family. I will probably look for a colloidal silver book that better suits my purposes.

The book contains information in the research, results, history of its use and the wonderful benefits of COLLOIDAL SILVER. It was easy to read and understand the many uses of Colloidal Silver where I will make this a daily nutrient to use. I was amazed at the information given that has given me more insight on the product. Thank you.

I am an avid reader since childhood - which is many decades ago. I have a varied taste and have read all of Ken Follet, most of Ludlum, Heinlein, Oscar Scott Card, J.D. Robb, etc. etc. I love reading. W. Bruce Cameron came on my radar with A Dog's Purpose which I have read more than once and is one of my favorite books. When he released A Dog's Journey of course I pounced on that and ate it up. When I heard he was releasing a new novel I pre ordered from Amazon and anxiously awaited my copy. I try to get proper sleep, but this book made it hard. And, then here I was reading it when I was supposed to be paying attention to my husband - oops.. It got my attention from the first few chapters and once again he writes from an amazing viewpoint that is unique to his author. Never have I seen someone write from an animal's viewpoint in such an amazing way. I am an avid animal lover and I am now an avid W. Bruce Cameron lover. If his name is on the cover - I say - get it and read it. You won't be disappointed.

I was going to write a new review for this book, but instead I will share with you the fan letter I put on his website about his newest novel:Dear Bruce,I am weeping tears of joy because I have just this minute finished reading The Dog Master! I never for a minute expected it to surpass A Dog's Purpose in my heart, but it might have... well, it's a dead heat and they are both so different from each other, I don't think they need to compete!I want to share with you the two special gifts you have that I see in your writing. You share with other writers the ability to tell a great story, make us fall in love with your characters, hold our breath waiting for the next turn in the tale and mourn the end of a book because we don't want it to end.However, you also have two things that are much more rare. First, you can insert humor into tragedy the way we find it in real life, without having to tell a "joke." I can laugh at the humanity of ridiculous behavior or illogical reactions of your characters. The only other writer who does this as well, in my experience, is Charles Dickens. How he can make us laugh during Oliver Twist's childhood, basically a story of child abuse, has always amazed me. It gives us a sense of the underlying humor that can be found everywhere. You have this same gift.Second, you can embody any character in a story, human or not, and describe its feelings and thoughts so perfectly that it enhances every tale. I don't know how to describe this exactly, but you can even have us experience the death of a nameless elk as if we are feeling it ourselves. It's as though you can flesh out a story from just being a story to something we all are living and breathing ourselves. Of course, that was the basis for A Dog's Purpose, but you manage to do it with everything you write. I don't know of any other writer who can do this, and it's why your books are so beloved, even if people don't realize why they love them so much.

I am a huge dog lover & have read all of Bruce Cameron's books, a Dog's Purpose , A Dog's Journey, & now The Dog Master! Wish their were more stories involving dogs I could read by him! All excellent books! I love books that make you feel, laugh, cry & with The Dog Master, a Novel of the first dog really enjoyed reading this book's rich history of th first men who evolved with th wolves & the thought th a man before the ice age erupted domesticated a wolf, in my mind doses not seem that unbelievable, I can see a lone man raising a wolf puppy up, teaching it commands to help him hunt to find food , pretty awesome!!! Read all 3 books you will be glad you did!

I was very disappointed with this book. I would read a couple of pages and think that I should just stop. But I kept on and was glad I did. It starts being a good book at about 45%.I disliked the first half of the book because it wasn't very well written. The narrative jumped from tribe to tribe without any transition so I couldn't tell what was going on and couldn't maintain any interest in the story. Mr. Cameron ties everything together eventually but he takes a long time getting there. I suspect that the jumping was a device he used to heighten suspense. But it makes the story choppy and almost cost him a reader. Also, none of the characters were at all sympathetic until the second half of the book.The second half of the book had a coherent narrative and the characters became more engaging.The other thing I disliked may not bother most readers. This is a book about very early humans. However, they spoke in complex sentences about complex concepts. I found this very jarring The other thing that bothered me is that Mr. Cameron wrote the story the way most of us imagine it happened. An early human works with a wolf puppy and develops a mutually rewarding relationship. But in the last 15 years or so, fossil evidence has shown that wolves began to be domesticated at about the same time in China and Europe. Researchers believe that this means that wolves basically domesticated us. They speculate that some of them hung around our settlements and drove off other predators. Early humans saw the value of this and reciprocated with food.Despite my criticisms, I do recommend this book. After all, it's about canines. Just remember that the first part of the book can be tough to get through.
