About the Author

My children are not in school yet, but I'm considering the classical approach. A friend recommended this book, and I'm so glad she did. What an amazing, engaging, inspiring and wonderful defense of classical, Christian education. It was well worth the short read. This little book will clarify what is going on in classical, Christian education, how it is different from other education and give strong encouragement for what to do with such a blessing. It is meant for high schoolers currently going through classical education, but I think its a good read for parents, especially of little ones because it helps to clarify the goal. I'd highly recommend this book, especially if you're new to the whole classical approach. This book was a blessing to me and I'm sure it will be a blessing to my children later on. Thanks to Rebekah Merkle for such a great book!
If you want to get a clear, concise picture of what classical Christian education is all about, this is the book for you! A quick read, but very profound. Rebekah Merkle is one amazing author. I love classical Christian education and am thrilled my kids have been given this blessing. I wish I had been educated this way! I will be reading this book with my kids to make sure they understand what an amazing gift they've been given by God!
I love this little book! I read it before handing it to my junior high, classically-educated child. I love that the author speaks to the students and can speak from her own experience as well. I am praying it gives fresh perspective and motivation to our schoolwork with greater appreciation for the ultimate goal we are trying to achieve. I highly recommend this.

You should read this! It's fun to read and makes excellent points about the goals and purposes of classical Christian education. These points are put in warm and simple words with winning examples and illustrations, and will help you if you're a parent or classical educator to a) remember what we're after and b) communicate to your student they whys behind what you're doing. If you're a student hopefully it will spark some new motivation and help you "squander not thy education."
